Project Overview
PackPal is a application used to help people create customized packing lists and was developed by Emily Wolf. It is a packing app that is user-friendly and customizable for packers and travelers that need help forming packing lists and keeping track of packing process to avoid forgetting anything important.
This project was completed through Brainco - Comprehensive UX/UI course project.
Project Goal
My goal is to design a application flow that maximizes customizability while minimizing steps.
Research
*Conducting User Survey
*User review Research
*Video recordings of Users testing the application
*Developing User Personas based on User Research
*Competitive Analysis
Methodologies Used
What I learned from the reviews:
Many users state that the application needs a complete redo. It misses the point of a checklist and quantifying packing list.
Users find it frustrating.
Users can't find the edit button and keep trying to push the i button which has no function unless in edit mode.
Users did not like the prefilled list items or needing to edit, delete or confirm each one.
App would not sync to other Apple or related devices.
Users have trouble editing items in the list.
App does not make a customized packing list at the end

Unless in edit.
Problem Space identification-Analysis/Pain Points:
During observation some users continued to add their name instead of naming their trip.
When users needed to delete or edit an item on the pre-filled list, users couldn't find or needed help finding the edit or delete button. The edit button is not well labeled with just a single icon in the upper right and confuses users.
The Celsius and Fahrenheit converter does not work and users were trying to re-enter or change their temperatures repeatedly.
There is no add button when adding an item to a list. Enter worked but it is not clear on how to add the item which was confusing to users.
Deleting items was difficult and is not clear that you should swipe left.
You cannot edit the main items category list, only the items lists and the users didn’t want some of the items in the category list.
Users could not find their custom list without all of the added list items at the end. They were confused on how to get to the list of the items they selected.
Email the list did not work for 1 user.
Qualitative questions asked in UX Survey
Personas/ Typical users: These people have a variety of different trips to plan for.
I will review Notes on Personas and re-write them.
Recommendations
To make this App more user friendly to enhance the User Experience. To redesign the app to be more efficient and address known pain points.
Define adding trip name instead of just name.
To Improve the use pre-filled list options so users can choose only what they need or add their specific needed items.
To make only their selected items appear in a list at the end.
To have the list accessible from their device for peace of mind by ability to download to device. Add option to save (download) list to device -To make the list Accessible Off-line.
Allow for cross-device syncing.
Clearly define ways to add, delete and edit list items.
Expand the list to include for babies and children.
Add a few other features relevant to traveling such as weather, travel documents and a shopping list for the trip.
Make sure the app is mobile responsive, and nothing gets cut off in the viewport.
Improve Accessibility by increasing font size and buttons.

Pack Pal Design- 1
Pack Pal Linked Prototype - 1
User Testing on Pack Pal Prototype #1
Usability Issues were found during the initial round of user testing.
Design Flaws found with the Circles. Words did not fit well in the circle. Redesigned with text boxes.
Design #2
Prototype #2
Future modifications:
The List box needs a quantity column.
The item text boxes would not allow me to change the width and I ran out of time to do another redesign. The final product will have a quantity box to the right of the item box.
The shopping list check marks will first turn black when purchased and when checked/touched a second time it will turn green to mark as packed.
